In the November 15 episode of Report — the renowned investigative journalism program hosted by Sigfrido Ranucci on Rai 3 — the Tuscia region was the focus of a feature highlighting the environmental issues related to hazelnut monoculture.
Alongside the growth of hazelnut cultivation, recent years have seen the development of a strong network of processing companies specializing in the production of hazelnut spreads and pure pastes. Many of these businesses process conventional hazelnuts, often for large industrial groups, following intensive supply chain models.
Hazelnut processing in Tuscia: Deanocciola’s commitment
In this context, Deanocciola emerged as a virtuous example of a company excelling in organic hazelnut processing.
The investigation highlighted how conventional (non-organic) cultivation negatively impacts the environment through the intensive use of herbicides and the loss of biodiversity. In contrast, Deanocciola shared its commitment to supporting a 100% organic supply chain — one that respects the land and ensures a high-quality product.
During the interview with Manuela De Angelis, the company’s manager, several of Deanocciola’s key strengths were discussed: family management, the use of certified organic hazelnuts, strict quality controls, and sustainability as a core value. This approach not only protects the environment but also represents a competitive advantage for commercial partners.
